How To Have a Successful Comedy Show at your venue. www.profusiontalent.com

How To Have a Successful Comedy Show at your venue.
book, Find, or Hire Comedians with http://www.profusiontalent.com
You can have a successful comedy show almost anywhere if you set it up for optimal laughs.
No Matter if you event is for:
-Fundraising Comedians
-College, Casino, Cruise Ship
-Corporate Comedians
-Clean Comedy for Churches
-At a VFW, American Legion, Elks, Moose, or
-Firehouse Comedians
-Jewish Themed show for Synagogues
-Urban Comedians
-Latino Comedians
-Def Jam style show

Follow a few simple rules and you will be ahead of the game.  You want to make the best situation for the Audience, The Comedians,
and of course your Organization.   We have to understand that Stand-Up Comedy is different type of entertainment.   It requires the
audience to pay attention without distractions.  Where as a singer/band can play over a meal, TVs,  or can be background music.
you will want to remove all distractions.
Best Case Scenario Set Up for Comedy Show:
THE GOLDEN RULE:
This may sound obvious, but let your guests know before hand their will be a show.
Comedy Shows do not work well as a surprise. When your guest are having a good time talking, dancing, or some other activity.  Then you surprise them with a show where they have to be still, be silent and pay attention. (if they do not want to they won’t, the comedians will feel bad, and you may blame to failure of show, on the performers).
—-If you would like to surprise the guest of honor, that is fine, but make sure everyone else knows
there will be a show.  They will be exited and ready to listen.

The Room (space):
–The room should be separate from any other event, bar, or activities
–All TVs and Music should be shut off
–There should be a stage. If possible the comedian should be at a higher platform than the audience
–The Stage should be placed where it can be well lit  preferably with spot light (overhead lights will do as back up)
–Audience should be facing the stage, Long tables work better than round banquet tables.
–Audience seating should be close to the stage.  Only a few feet away.
–No obstructed views
–Audience seating should have dim lighting (or off).
—Reason for this is that the spot light is on the performer, also dim lighting allows audience members not to be seen by others.
—Audience members do not want to be judged by other people by laughing at some edgy jokes.  Let them be in their comfort zone.
SEATING: (Surround the stage with audience and energy and you will have a great show)
–Tell audience that seating starts half-hour before the show
–30 minutes allows the audience to order from the menu and get settled before the show starts.
– The #1 MISTAKE is that a comedy room do not seat their guests, or Reserves specific seats upfront.
–This can make a great show turn bad before it starts
– The Front rows and around the stage should ALWAYS be seated first.
–When you reserve front tables, you run the risk of the party not showing up.  Then you have empty seats where you need them the  most.  UP FRONT.
—Solution.  If you want to reward guests who reserve early.  Let them know you can get them a front row if they show up
30 minutes before start time.   Otherwise the front seats will be taken by guest who showed up early.
TIMING:
– Plan your shows accordingly.  Make sure your event doesn’t fall on the same day of a major sporting event
(world series, Superbowl, even Monday Night football….etc.)  Especially if your venue is a sports bar or restaurant.
–If you are in a small town.  Make sure it’s not the same day a big wedding, festival, state fair, or local event.
–Weekends are more popular
–Shows should start between 8pm-9:30pm  (This depends on your area and venue)
—Night time is the best for a comedy show.
–START THE SHOW ON TIME

THE SHOW:
—Make sure you have someone to announce the show will start in a few minutes
—Tell guests to get settled
—Tell guests to keep quiet during the show, turn off cell phones, and no texting.

Sometimes it may be hard to get all these suggestions done for an event,  however
if you make an effort, and get most of them done.  You will have a great show.
Your guests will be talking about it for years to come.

How to submit a great stand-up video to clubs, bookers, festivals, and industry:

How to submit a great stand-up video to clubs, bookers, festivals, and industry:
A great tape is essential to becoming a working comedian.  Many comedians at all levels have made mistakes on the promo video tape.
Do it right the first time or bookers will remember you from a bad tape.  Don’t let a bad tape detract from your true talent.
Tape every set to ensure the best chances of getting the right set on tape.
Plan your set in advance.  Make sure the material you do on stage is the same material you want to showcase and shop around to industry.
Practice, rehearse, get your showcase set down and perfect.  Bring you A game as if your camera in the back of the room is a late night talk show spot.

Video Tips to get booked
1) Good quality Video and Audio
—tape should be at a comedy club or place with a nice background
—Steady camera, clear video
—Sound should be clear
—-LOUD LAUGHS
2) START THE VIDEO WITH YOUR FIRST JOKE
—-Do not put someone else introducing you
—-Do not put your starting crowd work on
—-START WITH A JOKE and a LAUGH

3) 5- 10 minutes is all you need
Do yourself a favor and do not post every open mic, bringer, or restaurant/bar gig on your youtube channel.  Showcase only what you want to represent.
Showcase your best work and people will want to work with you.

Chad Shapiro : Contagious Smiles and Laughter

Chad Shapiro
Chad Shapiro is a TV credited comic appearing on both national and network stations. He has spread humor throughout all mediums, TV, Radio, Internet, and published in Joke books. There’s no wonder why Chas is impressing club owners and is becoming a household name in the East Coast, as well as headlining at clubs and colleges throughout the country.
Most recently, Chad filmed an episode of “The Sketch Show” on LOGO, “Yo Momma” on MTV and was the featured story for humor month airing on Cablevision. Chad has appeared on the crime drama “Law & Order”, “Good Day Live” and “The Joey Reynolds” nationally syndicated radio show. Published jokes in Jeffery Gurian’s “Funny, Filthy and totally offensive” joke book.
Chad connects with the audience through his energetic stage presence and his contagious smile and laughter. He allows the audience to view the world through his comically twisted mind.
Chad offers more than just observational humor. His comedy is based on real life situations exaggerated. He utilizes misdirection and has the unique ability to play off audience reactions.
Chad keeps crowds laughing with his “fish out of water scenarios” and offers tips on everything from “Relationships to Laundry.” Chad is a rare example of how you don’t have to get dirty to get crowds roaring with laughter. He can cater his act for ages 12 and up, which makes him the perfect comic for comedy clubs or private events.
Chad can be seen displaying his comedic talent at Carolines, Broadway, and other NYC clubs. He also performs Improv and sketch comedy with People Improv Theater and UCB.
